The University of Westminster is launching three new training courses in how to direct sport, drama and live music for television.

Taught by staff of the University's award winning Television Production BA Honours course, these intensive weekend courses will give each member of a small group the opportunity to direct the studio, taking away a DVD of their work.

Westminster offers one of the top university television courses in the country and we are recognised for excellence by the industry training body Creative Skillset. We have a fully equipped five camera studio and state of the art vision gallery at our Harrow campus.

The courses are aimed not only at those already working in television, perhaps as a researcher or assistant producer, but also people not currently involved with the industry.

"These courses are an opportunity for anyone working in sport, drama or live music to make the move into television," says Geoffrey Davies, who heads the television department. "These courses are for the athlete, stage manager or person in A&R who wants to move into the coverage and storytelling of their passion and have not yet had the opportunity. Many of our graduates have gone on to good industry careers, especially in studio productions."

With the explosion in the coverage of live events – not only broadcast but also on the web and for exhibitions and big screen showings – the demand for multi-camera directors has grown and is set to grow further.
