A new United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited blood testing service has been launched on the Cavendish Campus of the University of Westminster in Central London, the only testing service at a UK university with such a high-profile accreditation.

The Biochemistry Testing Services in the University’s Department of Biomedical Sciences, which beats long waiting times with quick appointments, are managed by a highly experienced team of scientists, including Service Manager Dr Vinood Patel (fHEA, FRSC), Quality Manager Chrystalla Ferrier (SFHEA, FIBMS), and Dr Zhi Song who looks after instrument maintenance. Experience phlebotomists, including Westminster staff and PhD students, provide assistance with blood collection.

The service profiles metabolic, liver, kidney, bone and fatigue status, and also offers bespoke blood tests for individual and corporate clients. It complements existing health services available in the Department, such as fitness testing.

The service also provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with first-hand experience of a career as a Biomedical Scientist.

Dr Vinood Patel, Service Manager, said: “We are the first UK university to provide a UKAS accredited human blood testing service, offering a selection of health markers for the public, researchers and businesses. Fully trained staff provide a quick and efficient service that can be tailored to meet user requirements, and the competitive pricing, rapid results within 2-5 days and our central location put us in the forefront of biochemistry testing in London.”
