The title of the presentation was ‘Coaching provision: Added Value project for the MBA students at Westminster Business School - an innovative approach’. At the beginning of her presentation, she provided a brief overview of the wider project and its goals, delivered by a team from the WBS and acknowledged the contribution of its successful initiator, Dr Lisa Matthewman, Principal Lecturer in the Leadership and Development Department and a past Committee member of the Special Group in Coaching Psychology. She suggested that Lisa might present the findings of her currently conducted research at the next year’s Coaching Psychology Conference.
Zorica Patel plays an active role as the Committee member and the Co-Chair in the Events team of the Special Group in Coaching Psychology. The main focus of her Conference presentation was a dissemination of the key aspects of her personal experience of coaching several MBA students by utilising a variety of coaching tools. At the same time, the objective was to pinpoint her role as a Coaching Psychologist and the students-coachees’ experience on the overall coaching process.
The presentation was well received and questions were asked by delegates from Cranfield University who provide something similar to their MBA students, as well as Derby University who also provide coaching to their undergraduates. It proved to be a satisfying experience to present, not only this individual case study, but also the benefits of MBA Coaching provision at WBS to the wider Conference audience.
This innovative approach for Westminster Business School, helped personal growth and unleashed students’ potential and offered a clearer vision of students’ career developmental perspectives and choices. At the same time, it gave team members (from the HRM and the Leadership & Development Departments) a sense of fulfilment and job enhancement and raised the profile of these departments as providers of coaching. Furthermore, by adding value to the MBA programme, the University has demonstrated its firm commitment to the MBA students and their current and future career development.
