March news from the Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture.

A busy March at the Centre saw a number of visitors and events.

Continuing our close relationship with Sheridans, the Centre hosted an excellent esports event. We are also delighted that Daniel Geey, Partner at Sheridans and a long-time contributor to, and friend of, the Centre has agreed to join as an Associate Fellow. View his Associate Fellow profile.

Danilo Mandic has been invited to contribute to the Osnabruck Summer Institute on the Cultural Study of Law. This sounds like an excellent opportunity and we are delighted that Danilo has been honoured in this way.

Working as a ‘bookend’ to the successful anniversary screening of Cathy Come Home in November 2016, we screened I, Daniel Blake as an addition to the Film Matters series.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Guy Pessach back to the Centre, to give a talk entitled Beyond IP. Guy is an Associate Professor at Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has previously visited the Centre as an Erasmus Scholar.

Finally, Chris Ellins provided inspiration for the influential IPKat blog with his observations on the battle between Star Box and Starbucks. Hopefully he will write this up for the Entertainment and Sports Law Journal soon.
