Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion with some of London’s leading accelerators: Anna Thomlinson from MassChallenge, an NGO accelerator; Stefano Tresca from Level39, Europe's largest technology accelerator for finance, retail, cyber-security and future cities technology companies; and Richard Blakesley from Quantiply, an online investment readiness and access-to-finance platform.
There were also five parallel sessions with venture clinics and workshops from leading accelerators, venture capitalists, angel investors, successful entrepreneurs and leading entrepreneurship educators. Students and members of the public gained an insight into investment and access to finance, how to create and validate customer personas as well as how to do a pitch to grow their business.
Sponsored by Special Interest Group Entrepreneurhsip (SIG), the free session was organised in partnership with Building Global Innovators and was supported by Westminster Business Consultants and the Westminster Entrepreneurial Society.
Pascal Sabatnig, second-year Business Management – Entrepreneurship BA Honours student, said: “The event was a great start of a new event series at the University of Westminster. It brought together a bunch of very interesting entrepreneurial-minded individuals. The networking aspect proved very beneficial – the speakers and workshop providers were super easy to talk to and very supportive. Also, the opportunity to join different workshops in the afternoon, addressing the interest and needs of students, will be an even bigger selling point for the next Accelerate Your Future event."
Final-year Marketing Communications BA Honours student Diana Florescu said: “Accelerate Your Future was a great initiative to provide students with an intensive marathon of workshops and clinics helping them to get their ideas off the ground. For those who are interested in starting their own business or join other brilliant minds to work together on a project, this event was the right place to be. I met with experts, representatives of corporations and tech companies, and mentors that could support your most ambitious goals. NACUE, the UK's leading membership organisation for engaging students in enterprise, was there too and I was glad to see some other familiar faces so interested in pursuing the entrepreneurship pathway.”
Course Leader Dr Jane Chang also introduced the new Entrepreneurship BA Honours degree that will be launched in September 2016. Find out more about Entrepreneurship BA Honours.
