Learning Support held a successful launch event for their Westminster Inspiration Network (WIN) Peer Assisted Learning and mentoring schemes at the Forum in Harrow campus on 1 May.

Tea, coffee, cake and volunteering opportunities were on offer, with over 40 students registering their interest in taking part.

The launch event was to raise awareness of new volunteer opportunities for the academic year 2014-15 where second and third year undergraduate and postgraduate students will be able to help, support and mentor first year students through passing on their course, study and university experiences.

Learning Support are currently looking for students to take part in three schemes:

WIN Skills Learning Cafes will consist of second year, third year and postgraduate students leading drop-in sessions for first year students doing the same course. They will help the first year students by passing on their experience of the course and developing their study and learning skills.

WIN IT Skills will involve paid students supporting introductory sessions led by IT training. They will provide practical help in sessions introducing Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.

WIN Disability Buddies will act as mentors to first year students who have a disability and need additional help and support to orientate, especially at the beginning of their University experience.
