Dr Kathryn Waddington, Reader in Work and Organisational Psychology, commented for the Norwegian outlet Kifinfo on how values like equality, inclusion and diversity are being stifled by the prevailing management ideology in academia.

Talking about the problems in academia with inequality and discontent, Dr Waddington said these were mostly due to a lack of compassion and collective values that are being restrained in the current academic environment.

Calling for managers to be analytical and courageous in understanding who they are working with, she added: “Compassion helps us to see and hear those who fall between the gaps of overlapping and intersecting social identities, which we may not notice in a more individual-oriented performance culture.”
