Trained as an architect, Jaime Lerner entered politics aged 31 as Mayor of the city of Curitiba. Over the next 30 years he transformed the city into an exemplar of urban sustainability, which is now the first port of call for all sustainable debates. From the revolutionary bus transit system, through radical waste collection systems to the greening of the city, Lerner initiated a whole series of projects. Now working with his own architectural practice, and lecturing worldwide, Jaime Lerner continues to spread the message. He is being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Westminster, and this lecture follows his award in the morning. This is a rare opportunity to hear Lerner, whose lectures are always inspiring, amusing and provoking in equal parts.
