The University of Westminster is operating as normal.

All staff and students should continue to take note of the Department of Health advice on swine flu. There are simple steps that everyone can take to help prevent catching colds and flu, based on good hygiene. Always use a tissue to catch your sneezes, throw away used tissues where germs can linger, and regularly wash your hands.

Staff who experience flu-like symptoms should stay at home and access the National Pandemic Flu Service website or contact the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 (do not visit the GP). Staff who have a suspected case of swine flu, or who are caring for a dependent with suspected swine flu, should contact their line manager in the normal way to either report the sickness or request special leave.

Line Managers are then asked to inform the University's Safety, Health and Environment team on ext 3937 or email Niamh Nelson at [email protected] and Andy Norris, Business Continuity executive officer on ext 2945, email [email protected]; as well as their local HR manager, who can advise on the University’s Absence Policy or, in the case of a sick dependent, Special Leave Policy.

Students who experience flu-like symptoms should stay at home or in their halls accommodation and access the  National Pandemic Flu Service website or contact the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 (do not visit the GP). Students are asked to inform the University's Safety, Health and Environment team on 020 7911 5110 or email Niamh Nelson at [email protected]. If in halls, students are also asked to contact the University’s residential services manager Debbie Rumball on 020 7911 5986 or [email protected]. It would be a good idea to make informal arrangements to agree to assist each other should one of you get the flu and be confined to your room.  Your flu friend or "buddy" would then be able to collect any medication that you may require, purchase food and drink from the local shops.

FLU BUDDY-Have you got one?
