Post Study Work
The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has announced that the Tier 1 Post Study Work visa will be withdrawn on 6 April 2012. The last date to apply for a Post Study Work visa will be 5 April 2012.
New regulations for Tier 2 work visas for UK graduates will come into effect on 6 April 2012, along with changes to Tier 5.
If you graduated with a UK degree within the past 12 months, or if you are expecting to graduate before April, and you intend to apply for a Post Study Work visa, you must act quickly. If you meet the conditions for a Post Study Work visa, it will be very important that you make a valid application before 6 April.
Student Advice will be offering appointments at our visa clinics to check your form and documents, and help you make a successful application.
Tier 4 Student visas
Changes to the Tier 4 Student Visa have also been announced. From 6 April 2012 students studying in central London who need to apply for a Tier 4 visa will need to show £1,000 per month maintenance instead of the current £800. Students studying at Harrow will need to show £800 per month instead of £600. The money for dependants has also increased.
Students living in University accommodation will only be able to offset a maximum of £1,000 of their hall fees against the maintenance requirement.
From 6 April, the fee for making a Tier 4 application inside the UK will increase from £386 to £394. The fee for entry clearance applications outside the UK will go up to £289.
As well as other changes, there will be new restrictions on the number of years that students can study in the UK.
Full details are due to be announced on 15 March 2012.
