University of Westminster graduate Nicola Dougan has become West Lindsey District Council’s first female building surveyor.

Nicola was able to study her Building Surveying BSc Honours degree at the University’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment after winning a scholarship, while also juggling a full time job.

Speaking about her achievement she said:

“I am the only female surveyor in my team which is also something I am proud of. The construction industry is in a period of diversity and change however, still largely male dominated.  The support given to me by my team and guidance will never be forgotten.”

“It was a huge commitment and certainly shown dedication to my employer and University. I feel very lucky to be part of the team here at West Lindsey. I am very excited for my future as a Building Control Surveyor leading towards full membership of the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor.”

Trevor Durant, Senior Building Control Surveyor, said: “We are delighted with Nicola’s success in gaining her degree. This is welcome news for the council and the clients that we work with as well as a huge personal achievement for Nicola.”

Building surveying is a dynamic professional discipline which centres on the physical, functional and economic performance of buildings. The University of Westminster’s Building Surveying BSc Honours is fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).
