Over 180 first-year University of Westminster undergraduate students from four departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities attended a matriculation ceremony on 19 October 2016.

The ceremony marked the formal admission of students into the University and the start of their undergraduate studies. The event was an opportunity for students entering the Departments of English, Linguistics and Cultural Studies, Politics and International Relations, Modern Languages and Cultures and History, Sociology and Criminology to be welcomed to the Faculty by senior staff.

Students wearing gowns processed from Regent Street to Little Titchfield Street where Professor Andrew Linn, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, welcomed the students and explained the history of such ceremonies. This was followed by individual brief speeches from each Head of Department on a variety of topics and the event concluded with photos to mark the occasion. Students returned to Regent Street to celebrate with a wine, cake and cheese reception concluding what had been a happy and thoroughly enjoyable occasion.
