Professor Graham Smith, Research Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy has been appointed Chair of the Foundation for Democracy and Sustainable Development (FDSD).
FDSD addresses the challenge of how democracies can adapt to achieve sustainable development. It evolved out of the Environment Trust in 2009, recognising the need to mitigate short-termism in our current political systems and practices, and maximize democratic opportunities to achieve a sustainable world. FDSD explores the relationship and tensions between democracy and sustainable development and contributes to developing practical solutions and ways forward.
The most recent FDSD newsletter on ‘Democracy and Climate Politics’ can be found on the FDSD website.
