From September 2017, this world-class facility will offer ambitious, high achieving 14 to 18-year-olds an entirely new educational opportunity. It will uniquely integrate excellent academic, technical and practical learning in a state-of-the-art environment where students can work directly with industry giants such as Network Rail, Transport for London, Crossrail, Alstom, BT Fleet, Land Securities and Sir Robert McAlpine.
To mark this stage of construction, the former Lord Mayor of Westminster and Trustee of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, Cllr The Lady Flight led the breaking-ground event, turning over the ceremonial first shovel of earth on the construction site. Cllr Flight was joined by Westminster UTC partners including the University of Westminster, Sir Simon Milton Foundation, Network Rail and Westminster City Council.
Bill Templeton, Apprentice Development Manager, Network Rail, said: “We are excited to partner with the Sir Simon Milton Westminster UTC to produce excellent young professionals and address the shortage of young people coming through schools with the skills the transport engineering and construction industries are crying out for.”
