The International Eco-Cities Initiative would like to highlight the availability of doctoral research studentships within the Department of Politics and International Relations.

Applications are invited for a variety of areas, including ‘resilience and sustainability’. Concerning the latter, the International Eco-Cities Initiative is currently working on the following three research programmes:

  • Smart cities, including the link between sustainability and 'smart city' developments and citizen/public engagement in smart city projects
  • Comparative urban policy, including addressing the policy implementation challenge facing sustainable city initiatives
  • Urban sustainability standards and frameworks, including the interrelationship between, on one hand, national and international standards and, on the other, local policies and practices.

Anyone interested in submitting an application relating to the above themes should contact Professor Simon Joss for prior informal discussion on [email protected].

Deadline for applications: 5pm on 15 April 2016.
