Dibyesh Anand has been awarded a grant from the British Academy for a research project titled 'China's Tibet': (Inter)National Politics of Imagination. By conducting primary research in Beijing and in the Tibetan towns of Lhasa, Shigatse and Gyantse, the project will enable a better understanding of the complex policies, imaginaries and practices put in place to convince foreigners of China's legitimacy in Tibet. The research will contribute to a monograph 'Tibet: Contested Histories and Futures' (Reaktion Books) which will analyse, for the first time, competing Chinese (the focus of the funded project), Tibetan, Western and Indian perspectives.
