On 26 October the University of Westminster held its annual Property and Construction Networking Careers Fair at the Marylebone Campus attracting a record number of participants.

The event hosted 42 organisations and over 100 delegates who were there to meet Westminster undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in a career in property and construction. They offered advice while promoting their internships, placements and graduate schemes.

The evening commenced with four ten-minute talks from both employer and graduate perspectives. Caroline Dyson, Graduate Recruitment Specialist at Cushman & Wakefield, talked about how to make applications effective and stand out, while Linesight’s Group Recruitment Manager Jackie Doheny spoke about skills needed for a successful career in Quantity Surveying.

The University also welcomed back two alumni Sophia Nesro, Property Planning BSc alumna who graduated in 2015, and Antony Stavrou, Urban Planning BSc alumnus who graduated in 2011. Sophia who currently works at ISG Plc gave current students an insight into her career and the unorthodox path into the property sector, talking about the importance of networking. Antony, currently Projects Manager at London Crystal, stressed the importance of goal setting for a successful career.

The fair provided students with an opportunity to meet and network with potential employers and organisations such as Berkeley Group, Capita, CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield LLP, Gerald Eve LLP, GVA, Jones Lang LaSalle, Knight Frank LLP, Lambert Smith Hampton, Mace, Network Rail, Savills (UK) Limited, and Turner & Townsend to name but a few.

Presentations were well-received and students met directly with employers, many of whom were accompanied by employees who are Westminster alumni and graduates. Attendees gained advice on how to develop their future career aspirations, as well as invaluable hints and tips about commercial awareness and preparation for graduate recruitment with the respective companies.

Feedback from employers and students on the evening was extremely positive.
