Dr Pauline Armsby and Dr Steven Cranfield, academics at Westminster Business School have published an article on the development and delivery of professional doctorates in 3* journal, Studies in Higher Education.

The article is titled The Design of Doctorate Curricula for Practising Professionals and is written by Dr Pauline Armsby and Dr Steven Cranfield at the Department of Leadership and Professional Development at Westminster Business School together with Dr Carol Costley at the Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University. It was published in the a peer-reviewed 3* academic journal Studies in Higher Education.

The paper analyses the views of 68 HE staff, mainly from Europe and North America, about current issues in designing an appropriate curriculum for practitioners. It concludes that a wider understanding of the values and purpose of doctoral education, within and beyond the academy, is required that recognises the production of knowledge through practice, and supports ethical social action.
