Speaker: Anny King, Emeritus Director, University of Cambridge Language Centre.

Anny King will start her talk by looking at what philosophers such as Plato, Montaigne and Rousseau have written about 'teaching' and the role of teachers in the learning process. She will then explore whether the role of teachers has changed over the centuries, especially in the globalised technology-driven world of today. She will argue that the role of teachers has fundamentally not changed and is still central in 'teaching' (teaching as learning) but teachers must harness technology and use it appropriately as support for language learners.
