In this 2007 coming of age film, Marjane (Marji) Satrapi recounts her childhood in 1970’s Iran. Refusing to conform to the rules of the new Iranian government following the 1979 revolution, Marji’s parents send her to Austria to study. Feeling homesick for her family and country, Marji returns to Iran only to discover that Iran has changed too much and she makes the painful decision to leave. Visually arresting, Persepolis is a wonderfully told story of war, revolution, punk rock and growing up.
