On Friday 30 March 2012 the subject of the regular monthly seminar of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) Central London Branch is The changing roles of arbitration, conciliation and mediation introduced by Ian Fitzgerald (Northumbria University) with Professor Linda Dickens (Warwick Business School) and Steve Brawley (Chief Executive) and Sheik Khan (Senior National Officer) the Electrical Contracting Joint Industry Board (JIB)

Linda Dickens is Professor of Industrial Relations and has extensive experience of disputes resolution, having been a disputes arbitrator and mediator for the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) for many years She is also an independent member of ACAS Council and has been Deputy Chair of the Central Arbitration Committee since 1994. Steve Brawley and Sheik Khan of the Electrical JIB have also long practical experience of mediation. The JIB has also recently established a new service called JIB Mediation Services (www.jibms.org.uk) which provides expert employment mediation to other sectors, using a team of recently retired ACAS mediators. Finally Ian Fitzgerald has been undertaking research into alternative dispute resolution in the construction industry

The speakers are all leading experts on disputes resolutions and we are extremely fortunate that are all able to contribute to the series with a seminar that fits in well with the 2012 London BUIRA programme, focussed on changes and developments in the regulation of employment relations and in disputes resolution in a time of crisis. There promises to be a lively discussion, one which is highly relevant to the current situation. So do put this date in your diary now. These meetings can be full. To ensure a place and to help forecast catering provision, please inform Janet Druker or Linda Clarke if you expect to attend, preferably by email (please also let me know if you subsequently need to cancel).
