BUIRA Seminar: Professor Jacqueline O’Reilly (University of Brighton), Gender Regimes in Poland, Denmark, UK and Spain
On Friday 27 November Professor Jacqueline O’Reilly of the University of Brighton) will be presenting to the next regular monthly seminar of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) Central London Branch. The title of Jackie’s talk is Gender Regimes in Poland, Denmark, UK and Spain, drawing on her extensive international comparative research on the gendered dimensions of employment, working time, welfare and care systems. This research includes a large EU project on ‘Workcare’, examining how families in Europe avail or not of policies to encourage a better work-like balance and building on the capabilities approach of Sen and Nussbaum.
Jackie is a leading expert on gendered employment in Europe and the talk promises to be very interesting, fitting in well with the 2009/10 London BUIRA programme which is focussed on the transformation of employment relations in Europe and perspectives for the future – offering new approaches to the subject of industrial relations and insights into key current issues, whilst at the same time presenting important research in the area. There promises to be a lively discussion, one which is highly relevant to the current situation of economic crisis. So do put this date in your diary now. These meetings can be full. To ensure a place and to help forecast catering provision, please inform Linda Clarke if you expect to attend, preferably by email (please also let me know if you subsequently need to cancel).
