The inaugural lecture of Professor John Murphy. Much of my research has been directed to identifying and characterising genes encoding proteins which have important roles in normal biological processes and in diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity. The lecture will describe my research journey and will present some highlights on the results of gene screening strategies, gene identification and further characterisation in selected research projects.
