Want to have a go at animation in a university setting, improve existing skills or gain new ones? Then join us as part of the National Art and Design Saturday Club at our Media, Arts and Design campus.

For key stage 4 (age14–16)

What will you be doing

Drawing skills including self-portraiture, manga characters and storyboarding. Digital skills including introduction to and use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Encore, Istopmotion, and iDVD.

Making animated films – a series of workshops on varied animation techniques, drawn animation, pixilation, cut-outs, object animation and motion graphics.

In addition to the above, there will be a master class with an industry professional, a gallery visit, and chance to meet with other students from around the country from other art and design Saturday clubs.

You will be taught by tutor Shaun McGlinchey who is a film graduate and professional animator. He has worked for Disney and Warner Brothers feature studios, and made TV series, adverts and independent films.

There's a maximum number of 30 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.


This is an ongoing activity which will continue into the early summer of 2016, except in school holidays, and participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. This is a free activity.
