Who are our students? What are their lives like outside of class? How do they relate to their sociocultural surroundings? What do they think of the UK? Why should we care?
In this talk Lee will draw upon on his own research findings as well as existing sociological, psychological and educational theory to demonstrate that there is – or at least, should be - a lot more to language teaching than teaching language.
About Lee Hawkes
Lee Hawkes is a Teaching Fellow at Queen Mary University, where he teaches Academic Writing and lectures on the MA in Applied Linguistics. He is also a Doctoral student at the University of Cambridge; his research interests involve exploring the links between psychosocial acculturation and literacy development. Lee has taught and examined for over 13 years in South-east Asia, Europe and South America.
