Love the game? Want to make an impact? Join students across London to #ProtectWhereWePlay and take on the problem of football kit waste.

The University of Westminster has partnered with the University of Greenwich and two other London universities to offer ten students spots on the ‘The Collective Thread: Reimagining Kit Culture’ hackathon.

Ten Westminster students are invited to participate in a hackathon sponsored by Pledgeball to tackle kit waste. Pledgeball is a charity harnessing the power of sport to drive environmental action. Over 16,000 fans have already pledged to take action, and they are just getting started!

What to expect

Think of a Hackathon as a creative sprint – it’s high-energy, team-driven and all about building bold, fresh solutions.

You’ll team up with students from across London (University of Greenwich, Westminster, King’s College London and Kingston University London) to dream up real solutions for circular kit culture - stuff that keeps fans hyped, clubs sustainable and waste out of landfills.

Participating in the hackathon boosts your career-readiness, allowing you to:

  • Meet and collaborate with students across London
  • Develop your problem-solving and innovation skills
  • Tackle a challenge that actually matters
  • Network with football and sustainability leaders
  • Win prizes
