Sustainability Week is returning from 9 to 13 February! Explore a range of sustainability activities and opportunities for you to make an impact.
Monday 9 February
Bike breakfast and Dr Bike: 8-11am at the entrance to Cavendish campus
To encourage sustainable travel to and from campus, we are holding an informal bike breakfast for all cyclists travelling to the Cavendish campus. A breakfast spread will be available from 8am in the foyer outside the cafe.
A Dr Bike mechanic will check the condition of your bike and provide minor fixes for free. If any fixes require more attention, the mechanic will direct you to the nearest cycle shop where larger issues can be resolved.
5 steps to wellbeing fair: 10:30am-2pm at the Learning Platform, Marylebone campus
Learn about the 5 steps: Connect, Get Active, Practice Mindfulness, Give to Others, and Learn a New Skill, and explore how each one can help you build a healthier lifestyle while supporting a more sustainable future.
Our Library Team and the Students' Union will host a stall to promote books and resources relating to sustainability, giving away tote bags and running a badge-making activity using withdrawn book pages and old magazines.
Tuesday 10 February
Clothes swap: 10:30am-2pm at the Learning Platform, Marylebone campus
Refresh your wardrobe in a sustainable way with a clothes swap run by Loanhood! Bring in your pre-loved clothes and swap them with others on campus. Please ensure the clothes you are bringing to swap are clean and in good condition. By swapping instead of buying new, we can help promote a circular economy on campus.
A repair artist from sustainable apparel and homewear brand TOAST will set up alongside the clothes swap. Stop by to see creative mending demonstrated by an expert artist.
Wednesday 11 February
Green careers fair: 2-5pm at Fyvie Hall, Regent campus
Whether you’d like to specialise in net zero or nature emergency, becoming a change-maker in your industry, or simply like to explore how to spend the approximately 80,000 hours of your working life making a positive impact – this event is for you!
We’re bringing together a range of businesses and charities from sectors to showcase the world of ethical work. Stop by to chat with our guests, learning about the opportunities they have on offer and what it takes to be a sustainability leader.
Our Careers Team and the Sustainability Team will also be on hand to help you. The fair will be followed by an informal networking session until 5pm.
Thursday 12 February
SDG prize event: 5-7pm at the Pavilion, Cavendish campus
Now in its second year, apply for the SDG Prize by 2 February for the chance to showcase your sustainability-related work and win a monetary prize.
Students can submit to three categories: pitch presentation, academic poster or creative arts piece. Submissions will be shortlisted by a panel of judges during Sustainability Week and celebrated at the SDG Prize event. Submissions to the SDG Prize contribute to points towards the Employability Award, and the winners will be invited to the Employability Award Event in the summer.
Sustainable library pop-up: 12-2pm, ground floor, Cavendish campus
Our Library Team will be back to hold a drop-in stall to showcase the library’s sustainability-themed books and resources. Come along to the badge-making activity which repurposes withdrawn book pages and magazines, and receive some goodies!
Friday 13 February
Climate Assembly Lunch: 12-2pm in LA103, Luxborough Annexe, Marylebone campus
We need to talk about climate - and eat pizza!
Westminster has launched the UK’s first university-based citizens’ assembly on climate, bringing together a representative group from its community to agree on the future direction of the University’s climate action. But what do you think the University of Westminster Climate Assembly (UWCA) should be considering? What action should we take together? We're wrapping up this year’s Sustainability Week with a lunch and listen activity on climate action. What are your priorities? How can we organise to make a change? We'll make sure your thoughts are fed into the Assembly process - and work together to build a movement for change. Come to explore climate action together, stay for the pizza!
