The University supports Refugee Week which takes place annually across the world in the week around World Refugee Day on 20 June. The purpose of the week is to celebrate the contributions of refugees and promote better understanding between different communities.

This 'Beyond Borders: Celebrating Resilience and Leadership - A Panel Discussion' event will shine a spotlight on the incredible journeys of individuals with former refugee/asylum seeking backgrounds who have not only overcome immense challenges but have also emerged as influential leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and impactful creators in various fields.

The event is more than just a discussion; it's a celebration of human resilience beyond displacement.

The session will aim to:

  • Celebrate resilience: highlight the strength, adaptability, and unwavering spirit of those who have rebuilt their lives and thrived after displacement.
  • Amplify underrepresented voices: provide a platform for role models whose stories are often untold, offering diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Inspire future generations: offer hope, guidance, and inspiration to young people from refugee, asylum-seeking, and migrant backgrounds, demonstrating the vast possibilities that lie ahead.

Come and be part of a meaningful conversation that challenges narrative and empowers individuals to reach their full potential, regardless of their starting point.

This unique event is sponsored by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) programme at the University of Westminster, in collaboration with Oyella Odong, founder and director of Lion Voices Charity Group, as well as Dr Natasha Ramachandran, research member of the Research Center for Peripheral Populations and Homelands.
