Freelance Essentials is your gateway to freelancing success - a practical programme led by industry experts and experienced freelancers. You’ll gain hands-on experience, insider insights, and a supportive community to help you build a thriving freelance career.
Whether you're freelancing already, just exploring, or unsure where to start, this programme gives you the skills, connections, and confidence to succeed.
Workshops
You’ll take part in online and in-person workshops, covering topics such as:
- turning your passion into profit
- building trust and landing clients
- charging what you’re worth
- using AI as a freelancer
- landing more freelance jobs
One-to-one appointments with experts
Our Meet the Expert sessions give you the opportunity to connect with industry professionals for tailored insights on:
- AI and technology
- accounting and finance
- general freelance advice
- legal help and business registration
- marketing and branding
- sales and client management
Community mixer
You’ll also take part in the Community Mixer – a supportive event where you can pitch your ideas for the Pioneer Bursary and network with the wider community.
What you'll gain
- You’ll receive a certificate of completion when you finish the programme
- Completing the programme puts you in a strong position to take your freelance business further by entering the Westminster Big Idea Competition
Who's eligible?
The programme is open to:
- current students
- recent graduates (from the last three years)
You don’t need experience to apply, you just need to:
- be curious to learn – show genuine interest in self-employment and freelancing
- demonstrate commitment – actively take part in workshops and networking events
- embrace a positive attitude – be open to feedback and willing to grow
