Group mentoring is our way of ensuring more Westminster students can bridge the gap between the classroom and the working world through the advice of an experienced industry professional.
Group mentoring is a pathway of the Future Ready Mentoring programme.
Why take part?
Group mentoring is a fantastic opportunity at any stage of your career. It's different to our other mentoring pathways as it:
- encourages interaction and collective learning in group settings
- enables you to gain insights from – and network with – peers and industry mentors
- allows you to benefit from a variety of perspectives, rather than the deeper dive of 1-1 mentoring
- focuses on specific topics relevant to many students, whereas one-on-one mentoring is customised to your individual goals and challenges.
The sessions are designed to help you:
- gain awareness of your desired industry
- polish your self-awareness
- grow your confidence and resilience
- seek advice and gain feedback
- build your professional and peer networks
- share concerns, ambitions and questions in a safe space
- understand the first steps in launching your career
- get industry-specific advice as part of your course's timetable
- get specific CV and interview tips
- learn problem-solving and pitching skills
- develop your business ideas
- build an effective support system
How it works
Course-embedded mentoring
Course-embedded group mentoring involves a series of in-person group mentoring sessions during timetabled seminar teaching. This is currently delivered in select degree programmes and has run on the following courses:
- Law
- Humanities
- Computer Sciences
- Photography
- Film
- Business Management
- Business Management (Marketing)
- MBA
Industry-specific mentoring
We organise and advertise industry-specific group mentoring sessions on a one-off basis, where there's a high level of interest from students.
Networking events follow these standalone sessions to help you connect directly with industry professionals, expand your network and gain exposure to real-world perspectives.
Sessions are themed on your chosen industry – for example, for students interested in starting a business, we've hosted events that included opportunities to pitch your business idea and gain feedback.
Who it's for
Group mentoring is available to all current students enrolled in a participating degree course.
How to apply
Unlike our other mentoring programmes, you don't need to apply actively. Group mentoring sessions are tailored to specific courses – all you have to do is join your classes.
One-off group mentoring sessions are advertised on CareerZone and the university events page.

What students say
The programme is an excellent way to develop vital workplace skills. Nothing is more valuable than talking to an expert in the field in person, and it's tough to get this kind of knowledge through online research.
Jake Barnes, BEng Computer Systems
The mentor session was a transformative experience for me. It not only provided me with invaluable insights into my career path and aspirations, but also helped me uncover my strongest suits.
