The building enables students and graduates to supercharge their career prospects, networks and enterprises. Businesses and organisations can access our talent and support, host events and provide opportunities for local communities. Together, we’ll create a vibrant and inclusive space.

Responsibly restored

Built in the 1960s but stripped and vacated in early 2017, the original building has been responsibly renovated. It reflects the University’s strategic pledge to reuse, refurbish and modernise its existing sites and spaces through purpose-built, sustainable and mindful development.

Mindfully built to last

We have considered sustainability in all aspects of building design and operation.

Giving old spaces new life

We've reused and refurbished our existing building to help protect the environment.

Cutting carbon for the future

Designed to achieve a 69% reduction in carbon emissions, exceeding minimum UK requirements.

Built on solid foundations

Zone29 also helps to facilitate our social and human sustainability goals, strengthening our commitment to inclusion, diversity, wellbeing and social mobility.

A place for all, where barriers are broken and diversity is celebrated – Zone29 reflects the values and vision of the University that powers it.

We engaged with our neighbours and local council officers while devising development plans, making significant changes in response.

This included limiting the number of daily deliveries and amending the building’s facade and roof, so that they complemented the neighbouring buildings and lifted the townscape.

Our build team, Morgan Sindall Construction, are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and signees of the Code of Considerate Practice, which is overseen by Westminster City Council’s environmental team.

As both a creator and promoter of local jobs and experiences, Zone29 will boost the local economy and the career and enterprise opportunities available to the local community.

A significant renovation project, backed by a £5.8m grant from the Office for Students (OfS), has regenerated our building at 29 Marylebone Road. Modifications to the existing building include:

  • a remodelled top floor and annexe
  • facade improvements to complement surrounding buildings
  • additional floor space
  • external terrace
  • replacement windows and modern glazing system
  • long-stay and short-stay cycle parking
  • improved accessibility and services

  • July 2022: planning application submitted
  • October 2022: £5.8m funding from OfS towards capital costs secured
  • May 2023: planning permission granted
  • Late 2023: refurbishment started
  • Spring 2026: building set to open its doors
