In the UK, only 12% of university governing bodies are chaired by a woman and less than a third of business school deans are women. Professor Allan also mentioned that the support of one of her previous line managers, together with her stubbornness and an unwillingness to be defined in a particular position because of her gender, enabled her to achieve a senior academic position.
