What’s involved?
Community organising is about bringing people together to win change on the issues that matter to them. Delivered in partnership with Citizens UK, our university elective modules in Community Organising offers students the opportunity to become an active participant in community partnerships and campaigns.
You'll work together with your peers (including students from other courses and levels of study) and community members to develop and deliver campaigns that address pressing issues and implement solutions that benefit everyone.
The modules are structured around Citizens UK’s 5-step model (Organise, Listen, Plan, Act, Negotiate) of community organising. You'll be empowered to understand and apply this model when working with communities to solve real-world problems and affect positive social change.
Learning will involve classroom-based interactive workshops, but we'll also go out into the community to develop campaigns and take action in the local area.
Your timetable will vary depending on your year of study:
- Year 1 - you’ll take part in Semester 2 with weekly meetings.
- Years 2 and 3 - you’ll take part across both Semesters 1 and 2 with meetings every two weeks.

Who can take these modules?
You can take a Community Organising module if you’re a current undergraduate student and you are on a course that allows you to take a university elective.
How do I join?
To join, you’ll need to register for Community Organising as an elective module.
Community Organising modules are offered at levels 4, 5, and 6, each with varying levels of challenge:
- Level 4 – Introduction to Community Organising (4WSEL024W)
- Level 5 – Community Organising and Collective Action (5WSEL024W)
- Level 6 – Community Organising and Leadership (6WSEL024W)
