2022

Shortlisted

The Future Ready Mentoring programmes were shortlisted for the prestigious 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Awards in the ‘Outstanding Support for Students’ category. THE’s editor, John Gill, commented that the awards will ‘reflect universities doing extraordinary things in extraordinary times, when the pandemic continued to force higher education and all who work in it to respond to an unprecedented challenge.’ Our team was truly honoured to have our mentoring programmes – and the University of Westminster itself – recognised in this way.

Won

Piloting a new branch of Future Ready Mentoring activity in 2021/22, our Group Mentoring project team won the Collaborative Teaching Award as part of the Learning and Teaching Excellence Awards in the University of Westminster Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation (CETI). The CETI awards recognise and celebrate practices which have demonstrated a significant and sustained impact on student learning and the student experience. Working in collaboration with academic colleagues within the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the pilot ran as part of timetabled teaching, bringing mentors into the classroom through group mentoring sessions tailored to give computer science students a practical insight into enterprise and entrepreneurship. Read our Impact Magazine 2022 (page 5) to find out more about the group mentoring pilot.

Highlights

The academic year 2021/22 was a great year for mentoring at Westminster, one of the highlights being the launch of Future Ready Mentoring, where we now offer three distinct branches of mentoring activity to students and recent graduates: long-term mentoring, short-term mentoring, and group mentoring. We are extremely proud of our team and mentors, as together we supported more than 1,400 mentoring relationships in 2021/22 and exceeded all of our targets.
