The University of Westminster Legal Advice Clinic provides free legal advice to the public in four key areas: housing law, family law, employment law and immigration. All services are supervised by a practising solicitor or barrister.

For enquiries and to book an appointment please contact us via the details at the bottom of this page. Before contacting us please see our Clinic Privacy Policy. Please note that until further notice all appointments are held online or over the phone.

Due to demand, even if a case falls within one of these areas we cannot guarantee that we will be able to assist. Assistance is offered only where the case can be used for teaching purposes, and subject to staff availability and expertise.

If you are a student and are interested in volunteering please contact us (see below for contact details).

Housing law

This includes non-urgent housing matters for example, return of deposits, disrepair and service charge disputes.

The legal advice clinic offers a free student-delivered Housing Legal Advice Service to help you with your housing matter.

You will be interviewed by students at the clinic who will then give you advice, in writing, within 21 days of the appointment. All advice is supervised by a housing law solicitor or barrister. This advice will focus on the next steps needed to help you find a solution.

Employment law

This includes disputes relating to dismissal, pay, procedures at work and discrimination in the workplace.

The student law clinic offers a free student-delivered Employment Legal Advice Service to help you with your employment dispute.

You will be interviewed by students at the clinic who will then give you advice, in writing, within 21 days of the appointment. All advice is supervised by a housing law solicitor or barrister. Please note that deadlines for application to the Employment Tribunal are usually within 3 months of the problem happening or your employment ending, so you should mention key dates in your initial enquiry to the clinic.

Family law

This includes advice on divorce and dissolution, finances upon relationship breakdown, domestic violence and disputes between parents and carers regarding arrangements for children.

The Legal Advice Clinic offers a free student-delivered Family Legal Advice Service to help you with your family issue.

You will be interviewed by students at the clinic who will then give you advice, in writing, within 21 days of the appointment. All advice is supervised by a family law solicitor or barrister. The advice will focus on the next steps needed to help you.

Immigration law
