Archive services

Archive Services collects, preserves, and provides access to records created by staff and students of the University and their predecessors.

We act as the central point of information about the University’s history and welcome enquiries from students, staff and the wider community.

Stop Press! Due to building works in 4-12 Little Titchfield Street this summer, the University Archive is currently closed to all external researchers and will not be able to accept drop-in visits from staff and students. The Archives re-opens on Monday 2 September Further information can be found on pages for external researchers and for staff and students.

Throughout 2013 the University of Westminster is celebrating its 175th anniversary, including the launch of the third volume of our institutional history. Details on how to purchase all three volumes can be found here. On the University History Project pages you can read some key facts about our heritage, as well as accessing a timeline,  and listening to extracts from our Oral History programme.

On these pages you can find out about the records we hold (Collections), link to our online catalogue, learn about our history and how to research on significant themes (Research guides), how to access the collections as an external researcher (Using the Archive) and our digitised material and exhibitions (Online resources) .

Staff and students of the University wishing to use to the archive should see our dedicated pages at services to staff and students, where you will also find informatuion about the additional support we can provide to courses, events and other University activities.

We are actively building the collections, and are always interested in records transfers from staff or gifts and deposits from outside the University. Please contact us if you have material which you think might be of interest.

We are also recruiting former staff, students and Polytechnic members for our oral history programme – for more information see the University History Project pages or get in touch using the contact details below.
