Our research and scholarship activities are all focused on the theme of Higher Education and Professional Learning, which subsumes learning in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, learning in workplaces, and the learning of Higher Education teaching practitioners. Within this we have a number of specific areas of interest such as:

  • Work-based learning – issues in the role of HE in supporting and accrediting professional learning in and about the workplace, with particular interests in professional doctorates
  • The accreditation of prior learning – the recognition and accreditation of current learning in programmes.
  • Professional practices and identities – the distinctive nature of practice-based learning in the formation of professional identities.

Common, cross-cutting themes within these areas are technology-enhanced learning, assessment and inclusivity.
