HEFCE Prevent Duty: Monitoring Framework
Members received and noted the preliminary self-assessment documents prepared and submitted to HEFCE on 21 January 2016 as part of the Prevent Duty monitoring framework. Work was under way in preparation for the detailed material submission on 1 April 2016. Oversight and monitoring activity would be led by the RSAC until the monitoring process was sufficiently established, at which point it would transfer to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Group.

Proposed committee name and remit change
In light of Prevent Duty responsibilities, the RSAC discussed a proposed name change to ‘Referred Activities Committee’. This would include an extension to the remit of the committee to include consideration of referred activities not just from UWSU societies but from across the University, including faculties and commercial bookings. The proposed change would be recommended to UEB for formal approval, with full implementation and roll out in place for 2016/17.

HEFCE Prevent Duty: Monitoring Framework for the HE Sector
In November 2015, HEFCE published the final Prevent Duty: Monitoring Framework for the HE Sector guidance following an initial consultation. The RSAC worked through an initial draft of HEFCE’s preliminary self-assessment form in preparation for submission on 22 January 2016 and noted the timeline for the implementation of the monitoring framework.

Prayer and quiet room facilities
In response to security concerns regarding the misuse of facilities and vandalism, the RSAC noted CCTV cameras had now been installed in prayer and quiet room facilities and acceptable use guidance produced. Acceptable use guidance would be available outside each facility and new guidance on the CCTV cameras would be published shortly.
