Referred Activities Committee (RAC)
Role and remit of the committee
The Referred Activities Committee (RAC) was set up in October 2014 and reports to the University Executive Board (UEB). The role and remit of the committee includes four key areas:
Referred external speaker applications
To consider and approve external speaker applications referred to the committee by the External Speaker Assessor, which is a role undertaken by the Students’ Union. This includes monitoring the implementation of the speaker assessment and approval process.
Recognition of beneficiaries of student fundraising activities
To agree the criteria, deadlines and consider and approve referred applications for recognition of beneficiaries of student fundraising activities on University sites.
Code of Practice on Freedom of Speech
To review and recommend updates to the Code of Practice on Freedom of Speech for annual review and approval by the University Executive Board and the Court of Governors.
To consider issues in relation to relevant government guidelines, such as the Prevent Duty and, where necessary, provide recommendations to the University Executive Board.
The RAC is chaired by the University Provost with a membership that includes many of the Vice Chancellor’s Senior Team, including the:
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement)
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)
- Pro Vice-Chancellors and Deans of each Faculty
- University Registrar
- Director of Communications, Recruitment and External Affairs
- Chief Executive of the Students’ Union
Associate Director of Business Services (or nominated representative)
In addition to the membership, the committee is also attended by the University’s Interfaith Advisor and the Student Union’s President, or nominee, who provide advice and background context to discussions.
