1. Briefly describe the experience you gained in the role(s) 

Professionally, I learnt that I can achieve a lot of tasks in a short period of time, I have become more focused and better at self-management. Personally, I have grown in my resilience. It’s been great to see that as I push myself, I am able to deal with pressure well. I am growing more aware of my increasing ability and competence to work on my own initiative.

2. What is a highlight of your job? 

I absolutely love it when I meet students who were with us before! Hearing about what they are doing now and how UWAS has helped them in their career makes me feel my job is worthwhile, and affirms me that I am doing a good job. Also, I really enjoy the office culture here at CDC, it is like this work family, where everyone supports and treats one another equally.my goal of developing key transferable skills for example in Communication, Teamwork and Problem Solving.

3. When you’re not working here or studying, you mentioned you devote quite a lot of time on the Students as Co-creators project. Could you tell us a little more about this? 

The Students as Co-creators programme is a partnership between staff and students aiming to improve the student experience. Through the project I’ve had the opportunity to gain research skills. At the moment I am looking at what students do outside the classroom. The aim is that we can encourage communities of interest to develop to communities of practice, so for example, for students to start up weekly sessions in an area of interest that they can share skills and interests with each other. Overall, I am trying to increase student engagement and participation, reflecting on an improved performance as well.

4. Do you have any tips for students who are thinking about becoming part of Talent Bank? 

The secret to my success can be defined by David Fairhurst (Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer of McDonalds)’s three C’s: Competence, Confidence, and Commitment. Although, for me I will add a fourth ‘C’, which is ‘Consistency’. I apply this principal in all areas of my life. You need to like what you do, devote time to do it, and be consistent with it. To develop my confidence I have deliberately pushed myself out of my comfort zone by attending events and getting involved. Overall, I think it is just about being great at planning and organizing, and keeping track of your progress!

5. Finally, what do you hope to do in the future?

I am really interested in marketing and HR, in particular the psychological aspects of HR and how personality determines the way people behave. I would love to be a lecturer in higher education. I have had lots of role models that have inspired me and I would like to inspire and nurture the next generation, giving them another perspective and helping them get to where they want to go.
