Westminster Law School students

Finishing your degree this year at Westminster and wondering what to do next? Have you considered training for a career in Law?

If you're interested in a legal career and have a degree in a subject other than law, then the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) is the course for you.

Legal recruiters are looking for candidates with good interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills, as well as commercial awareness. You don’t have to have a degree in Law to train as a solicitor or barrister, but you do need to follow the GDL in order to convert your existing degree into a qualifying law degree.

Did you know?

  • The number of solicitors who have studied the GDL rather than an undergraduate law degree is increasing.
  • Employers often see it as an advantage that an individual has skills and knowledge beyond that of the law or legal profession.
  • If you hold a Bachelor’s degree from Westminster you’re eligible for a 15 per cent discount off your tuition fees, provided you start your postgraduate studies within three years of finishing your Bachelor’s degree.

The GDL at Westminster Law School is designed to help you make the transition from graduate level into the legal profession and no prior knowledge of the law is needed. You can also choose to study this course full or part-time.

Katie-Sills“To anyone thinking of applying for a Law course at the University of Westminster, I would give one piece of advice – do it! I could not recommend the University enough. Westminster is a very forward-thinking university which, on top of the outstanding teaching, offers numerous law fairs, career events and student advisors to help with networking and applications. You are genuinely treated as an individual and given the time and attention that you need to help you to succeed, both whilst at university and in the future.”
