This module will give you a clear understanding of all the aspects involved in designing, developing and maintaining a web-enabled business. It provides a comprehensive insight into the key strategic considerations of web design, and the need to align web presence with business objectives and organisational strategy.
Alongside essential web design issues, you will also examine web visibility (including ranking criteria and techniques, and search engine optimisation); web security; web-based innovation (such as emerging technologies and trends, technical and scripting skills, and mobile and apps); and web business strategy. By the time you complete the module, you will be able to design, plan and develop a working prototype of an interactive commercial website that is in line with organisational strategy, and which uses web technologies to maximise competitive advantage. You will also be able to evaluate websites and their strategic approach to achieving business objectives, propose methods for designing and implementing a highly visible web presence, and analyse the key security concerns for e-commerce.
Teaching and learning will be structured around lectures, seminars, and practical workshops. Assessment will be based on a coursework report (up to 1,000 words), and an end-of-module assessment including a report (up to 1,000 words) and a working prototype of a website.
