Professional Experience Project
Module code: 6BUSS005W
Faculty: Westminster Business School
Credit Level: 6
Credit value: 20
Available to: Westminster Business School students only, however students on some courses are unable to choose Westminster Electives – see list of exemptions. Please note elective modules are subject to availability.
This module is tied to a one-year period of professional work experience within an organisation in an area of your choosing. It will enable you to form a deeper understanding of a particular business area, by combining practical work experience with precise and relevant theoretical study and reflection on your learning throughout the placement. This is augmented by feedback from your employer about your work, and completion of a project for the employing organisation. Completing the module will lead you to a more informed and profound understanding of the particular business sector and related topic, and of some of the issues related to managing people.
Before going on your placement you will have completed core modules within your host course which will have given you a grounding in research methodology. You will be assigned a placement tutor at the start of the placement academic year and will have regular reporting points throughout the module, and further support via module workshops run from April onwards. Assessment will be based on a 1,000-word written learning plan, learning log and reflection report, and a 3,000-word professional experience project report. This will involve primary research addressing either a current issue within the organisation, or one that is more broadly relevant to the sector.
This module will only be available from 2017/18 academic year.
