Credit Level: 5
Credit value: 20

This module will develop your in-depth knowledge and understanding of the aspects of business law that are relevant to business operations. The syllabus will enable you to study sources of law, aspects of tort law and contract law, employment law, and the law relating to business organisations, as well as giving you an introduction to company law.
By the end of the module, you will understand the sources relating to relevant business law legislation and case law within a UK and EC context, and be able to apply appropriate legal rules relating to law of tort and contract, particularly the employment contract. You will also be able to analyse and evaluate typical legal problems relevant to business operations, apply the legal rules relating to different types of business organisations, and compare and contrast how companies are managed, administered and regulated, particularly in times of financial crisis.
Teaching and learning methods will involve a combination of lectures, seminars, and practical classes and workshops. Alongside an in-class, time-constrained essay designed to test your ability to research, evaluate and apply the law, assessment will be based on an end-of-module, closed-book, three-hour exam.
