This module enables you to further develop your study in an area of individual focus applied to the commercial music profession. For BMus students, module outputs can be combined with corresponding modules at Level 6, enabling you to graduate with a focused portfolio of work to a professional level and employing skills and experience acquired in other modules.
You will be able to choose one strand from the three available areas of study. Composition for Media 201 gives you the opportunity to write a number of pieces to a client brief concerned with writing pieces for libraries, and explore creative workflows to allow for the rapid composition and delivery of music. Strategies for Music Education looks at philosophies, teaching and learning theories, curriculum design and issues in education in general. Songwriting is for students focused on developing songwriting skills in a collaborative setting, and meeting creative briefs – for example, writing songs to accompany narrative forms such as children’s stories/TV shows. Improvisation (only for music students BMus/BA Commercial Music) enables you to explore and develop more advanced practical improvisational skills of analysis and application within commercial music performance.
The module will be delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and practical classes and workshops, and assessment will be based solely on your coursework portfolio.
