AlSadi Changing Lives Programme
The University is delighted to announce the fifth AlSadi Changing Lives Programme, a cultural exchange opportunity in Jordan. This initiative is kindly sponsored by the philanthropist Majid AlSadi, the Chairman and CEO of Eastern Holding.
The programme will provide our students with a global, life-changing experience and a chance to immerse themselves in Middle Eastern culture and learning.
Working with a number of charitable organisations, the AlSadi Changing Lives Programme will give students the chance to build new skills and participate in community projects, volunteering activities, group workshops and historical visits to the beautiful sites of Amman, Jordan.
About the programme
Dates and duration:
Thursday 30 August – Sunday 9 September 2018, 11 days (inclusive of travel).
Please note: you must be available for the whole period of time and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the trip end date.
There will be two pre-departure sessions held in late June/early July and mid-August for successful participants to learn more about the programme and to meet each other.
The cost of travel, insurance, accommodation and meals will be covered by the Majid AlSadi Changing Lives Programme and the Quintin Hogg Trust. Students will be responsible for the cost of their visa, entrance to Jerash (10JD) and any other expenses incurred.
The key aim of the programme is to provide students with a better understanding of life in the Middle East, through participating in volunteering projects, educational workshops and local tours to heritage sites.
The volunteering projects will include a variety of activities, which may include participating in cultural discussions, working with an elementary school, teaching English, helping to develop the school’s infrastructure and working with the children.
Charities you may visit include:
- Jordan Media Institute
- Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans
- Jordan River Foundation
Please note: this list may be subject to change.
All students will be staying at a hotel, which will be arranged by the Alsadi Changing Lives Programme. Details of the hotel will be confirmed prior to departure.
Please note: you will be sharing a twin room with another student of the same sex.
Two staff members from the University of Westminster will accompany the trip and will be available at all times. In addition, colleagues from the AlSadi Changing Lives Programme, based in Amman will coordinate activities in Jordan.
"This was the best experience I have had whilst attending Westminster University. I feel so privileged to be a part of this trip. From start to finish, I was in awe of the work the Jordanians do to ensure children, mothers, families and communities are educated and equally respected.
"At times, the programme is challenging, but it opens your eyes and allows you to question in a way you have never been able to before. If I could, I would apply again a million times over. "
