Chelsea Jobe in China with a student

"The trip to China was an incredible experience for me as an aspiring media professional, particularly the visit to the China Global Television Network. I was given the chance to visit a newsroom and ask questions about their role as a journalist and reporter in China. It enriched my knowledge and understanding of news and the media; and as a result, helped me achieve my potential.

The trip also utilised my communication skills and have effective communication with people from different cultures and backgrounds. It is an experience I will treasure for a long time".

Aaron french, music student in Beijing

"The Beijing trip is probably something I'll look back on in years to come as a landmark event in my life. I've realised that I truly feel just at home across the globe as I do in Newcastle. The language barrier was made a lot easier because of the successful Buddy system and without that we could have seriously struggled.

There were a lot of differences but I went there knowing this and with an open mind so I embraced it all as much as possible. My confidence has taken a boost too, knowing that I had the strength of character to go away to the other side of the planet with totally new people.”

"I wanted to go on this semester exchange so I could explore the world. Next year is my final year and everything gets serious and you have to know who you are and what you want.

So, this semester exchange is an amazing experience for me to figure out my future plans, see the world, find new friends and figure out who I am as a person."

"For me, the main purpose behind the exchange was to study and gain legal experiences in Australia and with that strengthening my CV and future employability. Travelling across South East Asia and New Zealand also gave me an invaluable education. In Asia I indulged myself with delicious Vietnamese cuisine, saw the beautiful temples of Cambodia and discovered the many islands of Thailand.

Because I had the opportunity to study modules such as International Public Law and Chinese Business Law at the University of Technology, Sydney, I have now discovered that I would very much like to work in the field of International Human Rights Law, which will hopefully enable me to fulfil my sense of purpose in life.

This journey of mine proved to be one of self-discovery filled with many adventures. Had I not made the decision to go to Australia; I would have then passed on the opportunity to grow as a person. I would have passed on the opportunity to form new relationships, which encouraged me to grow as a person. I am finally at peace with the person I have become. I am content with the decision I have made in regards to my career. And more importantly I have found a sense of purpose."

One year exchange, University of Technology Sydney, Australia
2014 - 2015

Student in France

"The year abroad was something I was aware of before I even began my degree and it was a huge selling point for me to study at Westminster. I was nervous but I knew it would be an adventure I would always remember. Much more than you can achieve with just a holiday I was really living in the country, learning the culture, making friends and improving my language skills. It has definitely given me a global perspective and made me think about where I want to go after I graduate."

Gina Giannetti, French and Spanish BA
One year Erasmus+ exchange, Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid and ISIT, Paris
2013 - 2014

Student in Germany

"I was very excited at the prospect of expanding my knowledge on international markets and economies at one of the top German universities. Especially when the university offered such a wide variety of business and media subjects - exploring other topics and industries could be one of the greatest advantages of this mobility program.

As an exchange student I have learned to embrace cultural diversity, gaining a valuable understanding of the international environment. I have to say that I was overwhelmed by the HTW multicultural environment. I am sure that I will return to London not only with good German and communication skills but also Spanish (we have a big community of Spanish, Mexican and Brazilian students), broader geographical knowledge and new recipes gathered from Turkish, Greek, French and North Countries’ cuisines!"
