Intervention and Statebuilding

The research focus of this strand includes critically analysing the empirical record of both intervention and statebuilding and assessing the implications of the current discourses and policies for international law and international order.

David Chandler is the founding editor of the Taylor & Francis managed Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding –launched in 2007 – and Aidan Hehir has served as Assistant Editor.

David Chandler is currently Editor of the Routledge Book Series Studies in Intervention and Statebuilding and has published many key texts in this area, including Empire in Denial: The Politics of Statebuilding (Pluto, 2006) andInternational Statebuilding: The Rise of Post-Liberal Governance (Routledge, 2010) and co-edited the Routledge Handbook of International Statebuilding with Timothy D. Sisk (Routledge, 2013).

In 2013 Aidan Hehir established the BISA Working Group on Intervention and The Responsibility to Protect with Dr Adrian Gallagher (Leeds) and Dr James Pattison (Manchester). He has also published Humanitarian Intervention after Kosovo(Palgrave 2008), Humanitarian Intervention: An Introduction(2010 & 2nd Edition 2013); The Responsibility to Protect(Palgrave 2012).
