Course summary

Property and planning are "people businesses" and are dynamic and stimulating professions offering variety, travel, networking opportunities and high-earning potential. The work has a huge impact – every organisation and every person requires somewhere to work and somewhere to live.

This course provides you with a detailed understanding of the nature and philosophy of town planning and the planning process, with a concentration on sustainable development, urban regeneration and the environment. Your learning in these areas will be complemented by other aspects of property and development including valuing, developing, managing and investing in the property markets, together with the transferable and cognitive skills necessary for lifelong personal and professional development.

As property and planning are not taught at school, students have a wide variety of A Levels and equivalent qualifications. The most important requirements are an analytical mind and a clear motivation towards the course.

Property and Planning BA provides a professionally oriented education, producing graduates capable of dealing with all aspects of property and development. The learning and teaching of the course consists of a variety of formats including lectures, seminars, presentations, group work and visiting lectures.

Assessment methods include exams, essays, group and individual project work, and presentations.

What our students say

Amandeep Retour

There was a lot of practical work on this course, rather than just theory. My overall experience from studying this course has been positive and unforgettable. The lecturers are very helpful and knowledgeable, which makes the overall experience enjoyable. The University has great facilities and resources. I have secured a job as a property manager within a medium-sized company three months before graduating as well as achieving an overall upper second class.

Studying Property and Planning allowed me to gain the essential knowledge on vital real estate modules, whilst learning the core elements of planning and regeneration. I learnt the importance of the elements of planning in the UK through trips, speakers and lectures, which has helped me gain work experience and be confident in interviews. The support provided to me by our programme leader was unlimited.
