Firstly Professor Christian Armbruester from the Free University of Berlin delivered a guest lecture entitled ‘A Civil Law Perspective on Merchandising – Celebrity and Image’ as part of his Erasmus Exchange. Christian has been a long time contributor to activities of the Centre and has previously published in our journal, the Entertainment and Sports Law Journal, on stemming the illegal trade in works of art.
Secondly, we hosted a seminar on the Regulation of Players’ Agents towards the end of the month. This was well attended with the Portland Hall packed out with a number of high profile external guests attending including the Football Association and assorted sport lawyers and sport agents. We were treated to three extremely thought provoking presentations from Dr Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Mel Stein and Dr Giambattista Rossi and this was followed by a lively debate. In addition to around 100 guests in attendance, the event was streamed live and we hope to make the video of this available in the future. Many thanks to Serhat Yilmaz for organizing this fantastic event.
During February the Sochi Games also took place. Guy Osborn wrote a series of articles on this for The Justice Gap, Law in Sport and The Conversation as part of his ongoing research into the Olympics and mega-events.
